The Porsche Cayenne is a performance-oriented SUV that's also available as a coupe. This midsize SUV offers two rows of comfortable seats, powerful engines under the hood, and expansive rear cargo areas. Deciding which trim to buy, or whether to opt for the SUV or coupe version, will depend on your budget and what you want from your new car. Our experts at Porsche Livermore in Livermore, California, can help you decide. Take a look at our comparison to learn more about each vehicle.
Exterior Design and Styling
The standard Porsche Cayenne is designed with a typical SUV body, including a squarer, bulkier appearance that creates more interior space. This vehicle's imposing presence on the road is accentuated with a maximum of 9.4 inches of ground clearance. Alternatively, the Cayenne Coupe has a sportier feel, with its sloped roof design lending this Porsche a sleeker silhouette than its SUV counterpart. This contributes to its faster acceleration off the line and makes the Cayenne Coupe a good choice for drivers who want the very best in performance.
Engine and Driving Performance
There are four engine options available between the Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe. The base unit is a turbocharged V-6 capable of generating 348 horsepower, a good punch for city or highway driving. In the S and GTS trims, you'll find twin-turbocharged V-8s under the hood that put out 468 horsepower or 493 horsepower, respectively. Porsche gave the most powerful V-8 engine to the range-topping Coupe Turbo GT, giving it 650 horsepower.
The main difference in performance between the Cayenne SUV and the Cayenne Coupe is that the Coupe accelerates faster off the line. Its 0-to-60 mph sprint times are slightly quicker than the standard Cayenne's. However, if you're buying a vehicle for off-roading adventures outside of Livermore, the SUV model is probably a better bet given its higher ground clearance and maximum towing capacity of 7,716 pounds.
Interior Space and Usability
The Cayenne SUV has two rows of seats that can accommodate five passengers, while the Coupe's second row only seats two. The Cayenne Coupe also has slightly less cargo space, coming in at just over 20 cubic feet compared to the nearly 28 cubic feet offered in the SUV.
The upholstery and quality are top-notch in both Porsche cabins. You can look forward to luxurious leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and a range of infotainment features that include a large infotainment display, smartphone compatibility, and a premium stereo.
All Cayennes also feature a wide range of safety features, such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-change assist. The surround-view camera and front and rear parking sensors can help you find your perfect position in the parking lot. Traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control help make your job behind the wheel even easier. Other optional upgrades include adaptive headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and partially automated highway driving.
Pricing and Trim Levels
Throughout the lineup, the Cayenne Coupe tends to cost more. The Cayenne starts at $86,800, whereas the Cayenne Coupe comes in at $91,900. Prices for the S trims begin at $103,700 for the SUV and $110,100 for the coupe. The main difference between the base and S trims is the more powerful V-8 engine. For the GTS, which is new for 2025, the MSRP for the SUV is $127,000 and $131,600 for the coupe. They're powered by a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V-8 that cranks out 493 horsepower.
The range-topping Turbo GT sports an MSRP of $205,900 and is only available as a coupe. It features the 650-horsepower V-8 engine and other upgrades, such as 22-inch wheels, a titanium exhaust, and sports suspension.
Which Porsche Cayenne Is Right for You?
There's no bad choice in this Porsche lineup, which exudes luxury and performance. But certain models do cater to specific needs better than others. If you want maximum space in the cabin for your family to travel in comfort, the standard Cayenne will be the best option for you. It has more cargo space, seating for three in the second row, and all the infotainment tech you could wish for. To benefit from the power of a V-8 engine while still profiting from the SUV body style, consider the S or GTS trims.
If your priority is performance and speed, consider the Cayenne Coupe for its nimble acceleration and sportier appearance. You can also splurge on the highest trim for the most powerful V-8 engine in the lineup and luxurious upgrades, such as air suspension.
