2020 Porsche Taycan vs. 2020 Tesla Model Y
2020 Porsche Taycan vs. 2020 Tesla Model Y in Livermore, CA
You may be vacillating between purchasing the Porsche Taycan or the Tesla Model Y for your first — or perhaps next — all-electric vehicle. On paper, it looks like the Model Y beats out the Taycan. But how do they truly perform under real-life conditions? As you’ve probably heard, your mileage may vary depending on different factors and variables compared to the EPA estimate. Typically, this refers to gas-powered vehicles, but it also applies to electric vehicles.
In tests run by Edmunds, the 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S crushed the competition, the 2020 Tesla Model Y.
The Taycan offers an EPA-estimated 203 miles of range on paper. In Edmunds’ real-world test, the Tacycan saw 323 miles of range and also offered “a better energy consumption of 32.3 kilowatt-hours of electricity used every 100 miles of driving, versus the EPA’s 49 kWh/100 miles.”
In comparison, the Model Y has an EPA-estimated 291 miles and a power consumption rating of 28 kWh/100 miles, and that’s with utilizing maximum range mode. Edmunds’ real-world test witnessed an overall range of 263 miles, lower than the EPA estimate, and 28.4 kWh/100 miles.
Sorry, Tesla. The Porsche Taycan makes it easy to choose.
